10,000 dong and a dream – printing lottery tickets in Vietnam with KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting!
- July 23, 2018
We all love the idea of winning something – whether from a raffle, a lottery ticket or while playing games. When it comes to lottery tickets, do you ever think about the printing technologies that are used to produce the tickets? Kodak inkjet printing solutions are key to producing many of the lottery tickets sold around the world. In Vietnam, where the lotteries are run by the country’s 63 provincial governments, Kodak’s dealer Techpro is helping to introduce new lottery games and a more efficient production process to the country using KODAK PROSPER S5 Imprinting Solutions.
The process begins with blank sheets of tickets printed utilizing offset printing technology. The offset pre-print gets imprinted with variable content using PROSPER S5 Imprinting Solutions mounted on a custom designed sheet-fed transport capable of producing more than 80 million tickets per month over a 2-shift operation. Around 250 million lottery tickets are produced each month for the Ho Chi Minh province, where the first PROSPER line is installed, so there’s plenty of inkjet growth ahead for Techpro and Kodak.
Many new designs enabled by variable inkjet numbering and Kodak lottery inks:
Lottery tickets are sold person-to-person by thousands of independent street vendors in Vietnam, with tickets selling for 10,000 Vietnamese Dong (VND), which is about 50 US cents. Daily prizes are generally modest by Western standards, around 100,000 VND ($5 USD), although some of the big winnings can reach up to $90,000 USD (2,000,000,000 VND). The ticket seller gets to keep 10% of the ticket price, so their take on each ticket sale ends up being 5 cents per ticket. Authentication is required, but once confirmed, smiles for the winners are the result of the printing output. Who knew!!
